GALESBURG - Liberty Tax at 1640 N. Henderson St. is collecting used cellular phones for soldiers.
The local Liberty Tax office is a collection point for used cell phones with an attached battery. Every donated phone can buy a calling card up to 100 minutes.
A teenage girl and her brother, both from Massachussetts, thought of the idea after hearing about an American soldier in Iraq with a high phone bill. They hope to provide as many soldiers as possible with prepaid calling cards for now, with an ultimate goal of providing banks of cell, satellite or VOIP communications.
